I'll throw this out there:

The reality behind giving your card over the Internet is that it's pretty darn safe. Safer, in fact than using it in a restaurant, for example.

Here's why...

To intercept credit cards over Internet lines requires special telecommunications line access, specialized equipment, and training to use that equipment.

Most credit card thieves go through dumpsters looking through store trash for credit card receipts. Very low-tech and easy. Have you ever seen credit card payments lined up awaiting the swipe machine? Crooks get the numbers if they want them.

I have no problem using my credit card on the web. I only give it to reputable companies and try to work through PayPal if I can.

I try not to worry about it. The fact is we are all susceptible to credit card fraud.
